I've been waiting for some time to capture this image, as four key elements must come together for it to be a success.
1: High tide just before dawn. 2: Calm smooth water. 3: High cloud cover and then most importantly 4: NO FISHERMEN!
For a moment I thought number 4 was once again to be the downfall. After sitting quietly in the dark for a couple of hours with just the mozzies for company, the calm silence was broken by the sound of boats arriving at the ramp just 50m away.
"No problem" I thought, "it's still dark and the water will have time to calm after they leave". But they didn't leave and I couldn't understand why they all floated down in front of the jetty and just sat there to spoil my shot. What's a photographer gotta do to get a break?
Thankfully, just as the sun began to light the clouds, one fisherman raised an air-horn to the sky and let out an almighty blast. This triggered the fishermen to fly into action and race to claim their favourite fishing spots. I guess it must have been a competition day. - Cheers Russell
