Mont Blanc on a particularly atmospheric and moody afternoon. Luckily you don't need to be a mountaineer to get this view -- a trip up to Aiguille du Midi (3,842m) is a must for anyone considering a visit this part of Europe.
The cable car to the summit, the Téléphérique de l'Aiguille du Midi, is an exquisite experience -- reaching the summit you'll be left breathless, quite literally, as this altitude is enough to start thinning out oxygen levels and in those unlucky enough, bring on very mild altitude sickness. The lift itself held the title of the world's highest cable car for about two decades. It still holds the record as the highest vertical ascent cable car in the world, from 1,035 m to 3,842 m.
The scale is hard to portray however if you look hard enough and focus on the right hand side of the image you may see a couple of black dots... climbers!
