Tibro Sunrise

Glasshouse Mountains QLD

The easterly view from the Glasshouse Mountains Lookout.

Here the sun rises over Mount Tibrogargan, a massive volcanic plug of hard alkali rhyolite, that dwarfs Wild Horse Mountain and its lookout to the right.

This area is the childhood home of my father, who climbed all the mountains in the region as a very young boy. (Imagine your 8-10 year old son coming home for dinner and telling you of the mountain climb he did that day)

My father often recalls the story of the Boy Scout Group that climbed Mt. Coonowrin (Crookneck) to plant a flag and claim the first successful climb. So angered by this false claim, my father (only 10 years old) reclimbed the mountain the following day and removed the flag. - Russell
